In our next Geneva Open clash, we have Cameron Norrie pitted against the favored Tomas Machac. It's a match up as predictable as my next bad joke. Unseeded Norrie may not have the ranking, but, good heavens, the man's been playing like his life depends on it recently. Straight set wins against Stricker, Brooksby, Kırkın, and O'Connell... It's like watching a well-executed game of whack-a-mole.
On the flip side, the third seed Machac has had a rougher patch. A mix of wins and losses featuring love set scores are littered through his recent history. Machac must feel as if he's on a seesaw, but remember folks, what goes down must come up.
Of course, we can't ignore past match-ups. Our very own British bulldog Norrie currently leads 3-1 against Machac, another point in Norrie's corner.
But listen - this isn't checkers, it's chess. The pundits favor Machac, and that might not be down to luck. And frankly, he's due for a game of catch up in this little rivalry he has with Norrie.
Should be an interesting skirmish - if you enjoy watching a sloth run a marathon. My Prediction? A grind, less of a spectacle and more of a tactic.
Albert's Prediction: Machac in 3 sets.
