Let's shimmy over to Monfils first. The poor bloke is wandering around unseeded, which I can only presume is because he thought the tournament was a potluck. His performances recently have been, well... let's call them patchy. Down more often than up, our French friend might consider taking up a less physically-intensive sport, such as competitive origami.
Meanwhile, Davidovich Fokina is sitting pretty as the 5th seed. Comfortably ensconced in the upper echelons, he's had his own stumbles - the one against De Jong and Zverev, which I'm sure he'd rather forget than keep as a trophy. However, that win against Borges was as smooth as a hot knife through butter.
Now, taking into account all the factors we shan't be mentioning, I'd say this match will be as predictable as a sunrise in the East. Good old-fashioned arithmetic suggests we're leaning towards Davidovich Fokina here. However, in the grand spirit of sports and unexpected comebacks, I wouldn't write off Monfils entirely.
