We have Iga Swiatek riding high. Ranked fourth and sharpening her game with every volley. She might have hit a slight roadblock with Sabalenka, but let's not forget how she effortlessly gave the old one-two punch to Svitolina, Rybakina, Cristian, and Raducanu. That's not beginner's luck, my friends. That's as real as Monday morning's misery.
On the other side of the net, we find the unseeded Victoria Azarenka. And I don't say unseeded to discount her. Au contraire, she’s beaten Kudermetova, McNally, and Siegemund most recently, showing she isn't here to sell hot dogs, she's here to play. However, that Kenin loss is still a fresh wound, and let's not forget the two previous outings against Swiatek both came up roses for the latter.
In their past encounters, Swiatek's served up some pretty good tennis and Azarenka simply seems like she's been playing love-all with the umpire. Not to take anything away from Azarenka, she's a true warrior of the court. But Swiatek right now? She's got winning in her veins, and I won't be surprised if her name is echoing around Bad Homburg once the dust settles.
