NJ/NY Gotham FC by 2So, we're looking at a face-off between NJ/NY Gotham FC and Utah Royals FC, folks.. oh, pardon me, sports enthusiasts. Utah is bringing to bat Mandy McGlynn between the posts with a strong showing of 22 saves to her credit - a commendable feat given her team's relatively disappointing season so far.
On the other side of this coin, Gotham FC's protector of the net, Ann-Katrin Berger, despite having a lesser save count, manages to maintain a pretty satisfactory rating.
Utah seems to be riding a lot on the shoulders of Brecken Mozingo and Cecelia Kizer, with a total of 4 goals split between them. Gotham FC, in contrast, might've unearthed the literal meaning of "Defense is the best Offense", given their lineup is as goal-shy as a self-conscious turtle.
As for history, well, it's on the side of Gotham FC—like a loyal childhood friend—with a couple of wins in their prior mix-ups against the Royals. As far as recent form, however, both Gotham and Utah seem to be going through a rough patch - nor unexpected considering their underwhelming regular season records.
The chips might seem to be stacked against the Royals, but, as the old adage goes, "a cornered fox is more dangerous than a jackal"; however, do not expect an epic comeback story.
