North Queensland Cowboys by 5Now if you've had your ear to the ground or simply flicked through a few sports channels lately, you might've heard about the upcoming round 10 NRL mashup between the stalwart North Queensland Cowboys, hanging around the ninth spot in the standings, and the Penrith Panthers, languishing somewhat painfully at the fifteenth.
Ladies and gentlemen, don't let those stats fool you. In the immortal and totally not overused words of the sports betting world, "Past performance is not an indicator of future results." These pair have had a tug-o-war kind of history. A couple of losses here, a couple of wins there, but overall it seems North Queensland has had their number lately.
Despite these past contests, the Panthers appear to be prowling with a newfound life. They've just delivered a mauling to the Brisbane Broncos, posting a remarkable 32 points, while their counterparts from the north have just been handed a soggy bag of defeat by the New Zealand Warriors.
However, don't forget there's a fat load of water to flow under the proverbial bridge, as the regular season goes all the way till September. The Cowboys, with their balanced 4-4 regular season record, haven't got a lot to complain about, and there are no free lunches in this game.
Considering all this, unless someone from Panthers turns up with superpowers next Friday, it's going to be a tough ordeal to break the Cowboys' momentum. They've repeated the history of yesteryear, stamping their authority last time these two collided, and this dance doesn't look to be deviating from tune anytime soon.
