Let me direct your attention to the almighty gridiron for a highly anticipated match of rugby supremacy between the Newcastle Knights and the Gold Coast Titans. As the Rugby great, William Webb Ellis, once probably not said: Here's mud in your eye!
Looking closely at the historical meetings between these two titan... well, one literal Titan and one Knight, the Knights have more often than not given the Titans a jolly good thrashing. Now, mind you, the Titans did stake their claim in the most recent face-off, delivering a mighty blow to the Knights' pride. But overall, one has to admit that the Knights have generally looked like they've had an extra serving of Weet-Bix when these teams have come to blows.
If we skim through the regular season records – and I promise you, folks, I am trying my absolute hardest not to yawn here – we can see that it's a case of the slow and slightly slower. Both the Knights and Titans apparently subscribed to the 'tortoise' school of rugby this year. With 3 and 2 wins respectively, neither team is putting the 'win' in 'Winter is coming'… quite like the Starks… or the White Walkers… I guess it depends on which season of GoT you fancy.
Moving our gaze to more recent results, you wouldn’t be blamed for mistaking the Titans' scoresheet for my golf scorecard – less is supposedly more, but in their case, certainly not. It's frankly a bit embarrassing, isn't it? Yet, the Knights haven't exactly been prancing around like it’s a Renaissance fair either – it's clear they've been having some trouble keeping those castle gates shut... don’t we all hate when that happens?
Looking at the league standings, anybody with a pair of bi-focals can see that both teams have been as successful this season as a chocolate teapot. The Knights are sitting, rather unimpressively, at number 12, while the Titans didn't even make it out of the basement - or dungeon, if you will, languishing at number 16.
In the grand, theatrical performance that is this rugby season, I'd venture to say that the Knights are poised to make their mark on this match. Yes, they've been stumbling around like they've had a few too many pints of mead, but when compared with the Titans, they look relatively sober. So, in the eternal, philosophical battle of no-so-great vs not-so-great, I'm handing the laurels to the Newcastle Knights.
Albert’s Prediction: Newcastle Knights by 8
