What's going on, folks? As we cruise into game three between the Dallas Stars and Winnipeg Jets, things are shaping up to be a regular Zamboni derby. We're sitting at a 1-1 game deadlock in the second round of the playoffs and it's up for grabs.
The Jets' Connor Hellebuyck has been a blocking machine in front of the net with 169 playoff saves and a towering 85.4% save rate. Same goes for Jake Oettinger on the Stars' side of the ice who's managed to pull in 252 saves in these playoffs with a 91.0% save rate.
Getting down to the hard hitters, for the Jets, we've got Kyle Connor who's scored 4 goals and dished out 8 assists this playoff season. Not to forget, Mark Scheifele who's been pushing his way through with 3 goals and 5 assists. On the Stars' side, we've got Mikko Rantanen, the man's been knocking pucks in left, right, and center with 8 goals and 7 assists this playoff season. I also can't forget to mention Roope Hintz, who's managed 4 goals and 4 assists thus far in the playoffs.
In the recent past, there's been a bit of a flip-flop with these two teams. Earlier in May, the Jets did swallow the Stars whole with a 4-0 scoreline but later, Dallas managed to eke out a 3-2 victory. Doesn't make our decision any easier.
Looking at the standings, Winnipeg managed to position themselves #1 in the Western Conference, outgunning Dallas who sit at #3. Despite that, the Stars have a decent regular season record, tallying 50 wins to the Jets' 56.
Right now, we're also seeing puck stoppers Hellebuyck and Oettinger keep their respective ends secure and it's turning out to be quite the showdown. If I had to put my hot dog and soda money on it, looking at Dallas's playoffs performance, the goalie stats and the payout, I'd say:
