Try not to spill your snack in anticipation folks, because today we'll be talking about the upcoming second round, game 4 between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Edmonton Oilers.
In between the pipes, the Golden Knights have been leaning on Adin Hill in the playoffs, with a save percentage of 87.3%, which, let me tell you, doesn't scare too many in the puck world these days. However, during the season, he made up for it with a save percentage of 92.9%. On the Oilers’ end, Calvin Pickard has been their go-to with a playoff save percentage of 88.8%. Remember kids, any goalie will tell you that 'good' starts at 90%.
For the Golden Knights, Jack Eichel has been the driving force in the playoffs with 9 assists even though his + - looks like the temperature in Antarctica currently with a -6, yikes! Mark Stone has been a great compliment with 4 goals and -3 in the plus-minus department. On the Oilers’ side, Connor McDavid is out here playing real-life NHL on easy mode with a stunning 13 assists and a 6 plus-minus in the playoffs. Leon Draisaitl isn’t far behind with 10 assists.
The past matchups between these two teams have been tit for tat. However, in the current playoff series, the Oilers have a 2-1 lead over the Golden Knights. Both teams have had success in their previous series; the Golden Knights clinched their series 4-2 against the Wild and the Oilers did the exact same against the Kings. The Golden Knights had a better regular-season record, but as we all know, in playoffs, it's a whole different puck game.
As for the recent results, the Golden Knights suffered a blow with a loss in their last game against the Oilers, but previously had established a winning streak. The Oilers, on the other hand, are on a high after their recent win and will look to carry forward that momentum.
In the overall standings, the Golden Knights seem to be the superior team being positioned #2 in the Western Conference compared to the Oilers who are at #6. However, as we know too well, numbers can often be as misleading as my ex.
Now folks, it'll be no surprise with playoff performance being the reality check here. Even though our Knights might have fared better in the regular season, the Oilers seem to have their playoff skates on and slickly oiled.
So, lay your bets, call your bookies, or just sit back and enjoy the game because here's my prediction:
