Toronto Maple Leafs by 2If you've been keeping tabs on this series, then you know it's been a humdinger – just like my accountant. Anyway, let's dive in.
We're heading down to the Panthers' den for game 4, and the Toronto Maple Leafs seem to be holding the upper hand in this second round playoff series, currently leading 2-1. We've got some heavy-hitters on the ice today: Anthony Stolarz and Joseph Woll are guarding the net for the Maple Leafs, with Stolarz showing a crackling playoff save ratio of over 90%. Meanwhile, the Panthers' got Sergei Bobrovsky minding the shop – like a circus bear on a tricycle, Bobrovsky's been saving more than 87% of shots this playoff; not bad at all.
Now, let's talk power players. Or as I call them, the rink's paparazzi. The Leafs have got William Nylander, who, despite only boasting a measly playoff plus-minus of 0, has iced enough shots to put 6 pucks in the net during playoffs alone, with Mitch Marner following closely behind setting up plays with 10 assists. On the other corner, we've got the Panthers' poster boys Brad Marchand & Anton Lundell, who's been on point during playoffs, matching each other with a whooping plus-minus of 8 and 6 respectively.
Taking a jog down memory lane, these teams have skated off 5 times recently, with the victor each time being the home team. Was it the home crowd cheering them on? Or maybe the lure of post game pizza? Who knows?
Regular season saw the Leafs in a mighty #2 spot in the Eastern Conference, towering over the Panthers tucked away at the #5 position. However, let's be honest here, past accomplishments are like last year's socks in a game like this, it's the playoffs that count, and they count big.
So, ladies and gentlemen, get your game faces on! I would suggest the Leafs have the edge here but, as we all know, underestimating a Panther in its own jungle can be... well let's just say, risky business!
