It's a fine day for some baseball folks... I mean, esteemed listeners across the globe, and we've got an exciting matchup between the Toronto Blue Jays and the hapless Athletics taking place at the Bowel, also known as, the Oakland Coliseum.
Pitching first for the Jays, we got Kevin Gausman. With a 4.23 ERA and 1.17 WHIP over the season, you'd think he's good. But his average ability to keep walks and hits down is balanced by quite an impressive Strikeouts-per-nine-innings at 9.0.
Lining up for the Athletics, we got Jacob Lopez. Suppose we could call him Jack Hammer, but a 4.49 ERA and 1.41 WHIP are more like plastic cutlery than a earth-rattling tool. His K/9 ratio is a redeemable 12.0, but Lopez just hasn't had the same consistency, as his ERA suggests.
For the Jays' band of merry men, we got George Springer, who is hitting at a rocket .341 average complimented by 24 RBIs and 6 home runs. Then there's Ernie Clement with a robust .327 average, and Addison Barger, who despite a .270 average, has been pulling his weight with 17 RBIs and 5 home runs.
Now onto the Athletics' not-so-all-star team. Brent Rooker is trying to hold some dignity with a .287 average, 13 RBIs and 6 home runs. Tyler Soderstrom and Nick Kurtz are not scoring as many home runs as we'd want, with averages that hover in the low .250s.
And oh boy, funny how history repeats itself. The past matchups between these two have been quite a trip, with the Jays taking 5 straight wins over the Athletics. And the records, the Jays are spruced up at 54-39, while the Athletics are collectively sobbing at a lackluster 39-56.
To top it all off, the recent results show the Jays are on a bit of a streak; with only one loss in their last 5 games. In contrast, the Athletics seemed to have misplaced their athletic abilities with 3 losses in their last 5 games.
So, you ask me for a prediction?
