Hold onto your hats, folks! We've got the Seattle Mariners taking on the Detroit Tigers at the battler's worst nightmare, Comerica Park. Now, this game is shaping up to be as unpredictable as my Aunt Edna's meatloaf, but we're going to take a stab at it.
The Mariners have George Kirby on the mound, coming in hot with less than a desirable 4.29 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and 9.3 K/9 over 9 appearances. On the opponent's side, the Tigers are trotting out Casey Mize — not exactly a strikeout king, but respectable at least with his 2.71 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 7.9 K/9 over 15 appearances. Don't put too much stock on George's strikeout machine status here, it’s Comerica Park remember, it is like showing up to a gunfight with a butter knife.
The Mariners' offensive lineup is about as consistent as gas station sushi, but Dominic Canzone and Cal Raleigh could turn up the heat with 12 and 5 home runs respectively. Let’s just wish Mize doesn't ruin the party. On the Tigers’ side, Riley Greene and Colt Keith, hardly slouching with .296 and .321 batting averages respectively, are the central figures of their swinging party.
While we’re on historical footnotes, their past skirmishes are a great bunch of toss-ups, with swings back and forth like an indecisive politician. The Mariners took the last dance, though. Sniffing a bit on the regular season record, the Tigers masked their stink a little better, standing at 59-35, which puts the Mariners step-sibling record of 48-45 to shame.
Breaking down recent results reads no future. Although the Mariners thumped the Tigers in their last encounter, their overall recent outcomes read like a rollercoaster track. The Tigers on the other hand, apart from that upending from the Mariners, have been pretty consistent.
Well, taking all these gourmet ingredients in my analysis stew, my Spidey senses are tingling towards a Mariners' edge. As much as I want this to be a down to the wire thriller, I roof for a clear winner.
Albert’s Prediction: Seattle Mariners by 3.
