Alright, let's get to business. We've got the New York Mets visiting the Baltimore Orioles at the infamous bird's nest, a.k.a Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Now, Oriole Park is known for being a bit more on the generous side when it comes to our bat-slinging heroes. Just a wee bit above average, actually. So the batters ought to have a bit of a good time out there.
Pitching today for the Mets, we've got David Peterson, who's boasting a 3.45 ERA and 1.31 WHIP this season. Huh, that's much more palatable compared to Baltimore's Charlie Morton, who will be defending the Orioles' nest with a bit bloated 5.64 ERA and a 1.60 WHIP this season. Guess he enjoys living life dangerously, eh?
Looking at some of the major players, they've got some serious contenders sitting on the Mets side. There's Juan Soto swinging a .355 batting average with 21 RBIs and 10 home runs, Starling Marte with a solid .327 batting average and Brandon Nimmo boasting a .311 batting average with 19 RBIs. Meanwhile, if we squint our eyes and look over to the Orioles' side, we see Jordan Westburg with a .298 batting average, Gary Sanchez at .295 and Ramon Laureano batting .272. I've seen worse, I guess.
If we roll back the tape on some of their past encounters, it’s a bit like watching a chess match on roller skates. Their recent history has been a mixed bag with ultra-close games, some twisted by one run. It’s been back-and-forth, back-and-forth. Just last meet saw the Mets edge out a victory, 7-6.
Taking a peek at the regular season records, we got the Mets at a rather strong 53-39, while the Orioles are trailing behind at 40-50. The recent results for both teams aren't too shabby, with Mets nabbing three wins in their last five games, and Orioles four.
Hence, herewith, drawing upon my seemingly endless wisdom and experience, here's my, uh, *esteemed* prediction, shaken not stirred:
