In the court's blue corner, we've got Taylor Fritz, seeded third and armed with quite an impressive record recently. He's been boogieing around the court, drubbing opponents left and right except for that one little misstep against Mensik, but hey, who's counting?
On the red side, there's Benjamin Bonzi, unseeded but not to be underestimated. For an unseeded player, he has managed to scrape wins against some notable opponents like Hurkacz and Čilić, which is somewhat akin to a squirrel successfully hustling acorns from a pack of dozy dogs. But let's not forget the other half of the story -- the matches he lost, like being outwitted by Rincon and cut down by Ramos-Viñolas.
It's a cruel world out there, folks. Tennis doesn’t get much more ruthless. You’ve got two gladiators arming up with their rackets, powered by their backhands, forehands, serve-and-volley, oh and energy drinks. Lots of them.
Based on the hard, cold facts, however, the scales of fortune seem to be tipping in favor of our third-seeded player here. Fritz has been more consistent on whole, having lost only one out of his last five matches. Bonzi, on the other hand, well... he’s lost three of his last five matches. Tough luck, Benny Boy.
So, without further ado and perhaps to no one's surprise (unless you've been following tennis from a cave), here comes my prediction.
Albert's Prediction: Fritz in straight sets.
