Lyon by 11If I told you this game between Lyon and Racing Metro 92 was going to be the sports equivalent of watching paint dry, I'd be over-selling it. With both teams virtually inseparable in their regular-season records and positions in the standings, this match has 'eye glazing' written all over it. It's round 26, and these teams have played each other more times than I've regretted not becoming a vet.
It's a battle of mediocrity here, ladies and gentlemen. The recent results for both teams have recorded more ups and downs than a rollercoaster. What's more exciting? The fact that Lyon lost to Toulouse 43-3 or that Racing Metro 92 managed, by some miracle, to rack up 49 points against Stade Français? Who's to say?
When comparing past matchups, the teams' performance is about as consistent as a weather forecast in the tropics. From a draw to a whopping 45-11 Lyon win, it's clear that on their day, either team can surprise you—although probably not in a good way.
That being said, the bookies seem to think Lyon will edge it, and who am I to argue? Despite a more positive recent form from Racing Metro 92, the inconsistency of both teams makes my trusted Magic 8 Ball as accurate a forecaster as any. But given Lyon's home advantage and a couple of relatively close-score games in the recent past, it seems they're the ones to back. Here’s hoping they paint the field purple and white more than Racing Metro 92 can paint it light blue and white.
