Look at this matchup folks, the Fijian Drua versus the Blues. Recently, it appears that both teams have been going to the school of hard knocks...and failing. Let's be real, none of them are having what we’d call a banner season, but that doesn't mean there isn't a lesson in losing -- mostly it's to not play like either of these two teams.
In the recent past, our friends from the Pacific, the Fijian Drua, have been making a hobby out of stumbling over their own feet with a terribly unexciting record of 3-8. Their recent wins speak more to the other teams having an off day than them playing up to the mark. On the other hand, Blues, with a record of 4-7, haven’t had much to sing about.
Historically it appears the Blues have had the measure of the Drua. I mean, one doesn't forget a resounding 36-5 trouncing, not to mention a 34-10 drubbing shortly before that. Clearly, it seems like the Drua's tackles are as effective as a wet tissue in a blizzard when up against the Blues.
The recent form guide is another story. The blues had some semblance of a winning formula, but like a poor magician, they couldn't keep the illusion going. After victories against the Hurricanes and Moana Pasifika, they fell to the crusaders and the Queensland Reds, though they managed a redeeming win against Western Force.
On the Drua side, they've experienced a fluctuation of performance that's almost dizzying. After defeating the Waratahs and Reds, they got themselves soundly defeated by the Highlanders and Crusaders and experienced a loss against Moana Pasifika that was akin to a pie in the face. It's like they're playing rugby bingo at this point and they're just ticking off every possible result.
Looking at position, Blues are perched at a rather unimpressive 7th and the Drua at an equally uninspiring 11th. Who you gonna bet on? The consistently inconsistent squad or the incompetence experienced ? It's like asking me to pick between a punch in the gut or a kick in the shin - I don't wanna choose either.
However, a job's a job and seeing how Blues do have a slight edge in the regular season history against the Drua and that they haven’t fared as bad in recent times compared to the Fijian side, I'm going to go with the trusty law of averages here.
Albert’s Prediction: Blues by 8
