In our upcoming bout of upper crust football, we have the Southampton choirboys squaring off against the Brentford honey badgers. And, boy, have these badgers been badgering lately. The past duels with the choirboys ended up more like a solo performance by Brentford, with 3-1, 2-0, and 3-0 victories. Feels like they might as well have been singing their own swan song.
Southampton's star custodians, Aaron Ramsdale with a rating of 7.57 and 14 saves, and Joe Lumley at 6.65 with 9 saves, might be calling for divine intervention against Brentford's strikers. Over to Brentford, Mark Flekken and Hákon Rafn Valdimarsson are rocking respectable ratings of 7.27 and 7.10 respectively. Not to mention, Flekken has managed an impressive 26 saves.
Now, looking at our players, Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo has been more like Bryan 'Be-A-Hero', sporting a 7.57 rating and hitting 3 goals. And who could forget Mikkel Damsgaard, the darling weatherman as he always brings a storm with a 7.13 rating, even despite only putting up one goal so far. Not to let things be, Nathan Collins despite his relatively low rating of 6.90, has also got on the goal train.
Over at Southampton, we've got Jan Bednarek wielding a 7.25 rating, although he's yet to put a ball in the back of the net. Throw in Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Joe Aribo, these gents have been holding the fort. Aribo, though, seems to be taking his game to new heights with a goal under his belt.
Brentford with a record of 7 wins, 3 draws, and 9 losses, has had a bit of a hop, skip, and jump compared to Southampton's rather sad tale of 1 win, 3 draw and a whopping 15 losses. The recent records also tell a similar story. From a betting man's perspective, Southampton looks about as promising as a raincheck for sunshine in England.
So, putting my neck on the line, here's my prediction:
Albert’s Prediction: Brentford by 2
