Ah, the theatre of Rugby is upon us yet again. This time, we've got the Canterbury Bulldogs clashing horns with the Newcastle Knights. Oh, what a joy to the senses this promised spectacle ought to be.
The Bulldogs look like next level mutants right now, a positively mutant caliber rugby force, cruising through the fifth round of the season with a shiny 4-0 record. It's quite easy to fantasize about the continued dominance of a Bulldogs team that's evidently been on a diet of rocket fuel and raw ambition. They sit pretty at number 1 in the NRL Premiership, and have been treating opposing scores like targets at a shooting range, meaning they're having quite the start to this year, record-wise that is.
Our knights of Newcastle could be doing better, but they're certainly not in the doldrums. They've fared okay with a 2-1 record and sit at the 9th spot in the NRL Premiership ladder. Looking back, their past rendezvous with the Bulldogs seem to oscillate between "let's take a nap for 80 minutes" and "let's play a level of rugby never seen before". As entertaining as that unpredictability is, it does make a wise commentator hesitant to... well, comment too much.
In the recent games, both the teams have had their moments, the Knights sometimes shining brighter than a supernova and at others, being about as inspiring as a damp napkin. Meandering thus through the cosmic theatre of Rugby, they find themselves here, swords drawn, and eyes on the prize.
Given the Bulldogs' current godlike form and Knights' inconsistency, along with those historically plump scores whenever the Bulldogs drink too much coffee before kick-off, I wouldn't stick my neck out for the Knights in this one.
