St. George Illawarra Dragons by 5Not one to mince words, let's tackle this head-on. The Parramatta Eels and the St. George Illawarra Dragons are squaring off in round five. With 27 rounds - we're barely out of the parking lot and the Eels already seem to be stuck in reverse, losing every game. Sad, really.
Now, history spews some interesting facts. In their last three face-offs, the Eels simply had the Dragons for breakfast, lunch, and dinner – you know, a nice balanced Eel diet. But don't let nostalgia fool you, those days seem as distant as my high school six-pack.
Fast-forward to 2025 and the Dragons have already stepped up, tasting victory once, while the Eels are yet to pop their champagne corks, losing four straight - my mother-in-law's nagging seems to have a better track record.
Though the past can have us misty-eyed, the 'now' seems to have cataracts for the Eels. Giants of yore, they currently slum it out at 17th position in the Premiership, while the Dragons are comfortably perched in 11th, probably sipping on something fancy.
In terms of recent actions, the Dragons - while not exactly flame-throwers - have warmed up a bit, overcoming the Melbourne Storm and giving the South Sydney Rabbitohs a close shave. Meanwhile, the Eels... well they're the speed-bumps on every club's schedule at the moment.
Taking all the facts and figures, past performances and current forms, and the color of boots Eels might be wearing, it appears safe to say - and mind you, this is as fun as counting all grains of desert sand one by one - that the St. George Illawarra Dragons look poised for yet another celebration.
