Looking forward to this clash between the Philadelphia Flyers and the New Jersey Devils, we've got an intriguing match on our hands. Let's get this straight, much like a reunion with in-laws, nobody wants an easy prediction and fortunately, this game provides just that.
The Philadelphia Flyers pair Samuel Ersson and Ivan Fedotov have practically been living in the crease, doing all they can to stop that annoying frozen disc. Good on them for trying, but last I checked, presents are a Christmas thing and having 576 saves for Ersson and 316 for Fedotov, they've certainly given out their fair share.
On the flip side, New Jersey's Jacob Markstrom and Jake Allen have been busy keeping things cold their end as well. A 90.7% save rate for Markstrom last month and Allen following closely behind at 90.9% suggests someone desiring a frosty reception would be well-advised to send their shots on goal flying there.
Now the Flyers definitely have an interesting troupe of players. Travis Konecny's having a banner year with 21 goals, and 37 assists. Morgan Frost, Noah Cates, and the boys unite to provide their fair share of offensive fury too.
New Jersey however, has their own top guns. Jack Hughes has been firing on all cylinders with the pressure on him. A perfect mix of 19 goals and a whopping 39 assists. Jesper Bratt, Dougie Hamilton, and even Nico Hischier hitting 24 goals make for a lovely recipe of scoring threats to juggle.
When faced head-to-head, the air between these two teams has been thicker than a Yorkshire Pudding. Especially with the recent run, Philadelphia seems to have a little more mojo in hand over the Devils.
However, it seems the Devils have been tearing up the regular season like a kid on Christmas morning opening presents, sitting at 28-6-18. While Philadelphia's strumming along like a one-man band, rocking a 23-6-22 record.
Judging by their recent performances, Philadelphia's got a bit of an uphill battle against their form. Something to think about, eh? Same can't exactly be said about New Jersey, who've had a decent run of games, despite the stumbles against the Flyers, like a Jenga tower still walking that fine line.
Okay, done tormenting you with the suspense, here's my two cents, or whatever your currency equivalent is. We'll likely see the Devils ruling the ice by a whisker of a margin. Like Uncle Norman dancing the Macarena at the family gathering, it ain't gonna be pretty, but it's gonna happen.
