Texas Longhorns by 8Ladies and gents, if you're bored of knitting sweaters or watching paint dry, then boy, do we have a thrilling matchup for you. The Tennessee Lady Volunteers, proudly sitting at a #5 seed, are going horn-to-horn against the more favored Texas Longhorns at a #1 spot.
Tennessee is armed with talents like Talaysia Cooper, who's been clocking in an impressive average of 19.5 points per game this season and Lazaria Spearman, who’s been stirring things up with 15.0 points on average this season. With support from pugnacious small fry Samara Spencer, are they looking like a threatening trio? Yes. Should the Longhorns be shaking in their boots? Not necessarily.
The Longhorns, for their part, have Madison Booker who's been packing a punch with her scoring. I mean, she scored more from her last season’s 13 points a game with her slightly beefed-up stat of 17.1 points per game last month. Add Taylor Jones to the scoring mix along with her 11.3 points per game last season and you have some twin tower action going. Speaking of towering figures, let's not ignore Kyla Oldacre accumulating an average of 10.5 rebounds this season. Size does matter, folks.
As far as head-to-head goes, Texas squeaked past Tennessee last time they met, making this matchup as unpredictable as tomorrow's weather forecast. Tennessee’s fairly solid season record of 22-9 pales in comparison to the Longhorns’ haute couture 31-3, but they have demonstrated their ability to rock bigger boats in tournament play. Now, whether they are ready to steer this longhorn, remains in question.
In the end, the court don't lie. With a more balanced set of top performers, a superior regular season record, and recent victories against robust teams, Texas is the safer bet. My Prediction? Lady Longhorns to win. It won't be a walk in the park, and certainly won't be for the faint-hearted, but I reckon Texas has it.
