Florida Gators by 3Flipping through the sports almanac here, let's size up the Final Four face-off between the Florida Gators and Auburn Tigers. Now, both teams come strapped with some ace players, so don't get too comfy on that bar stool.
The Gators have the crown jewel in Walter Clayton, who, pin me down and take my lunch money, seems to have a gift for making buckets rain with an average of 20.6 points just last month. We see supporting acts in the form of Thomas Haugh and Alex Condon, also putting in a decent shift on scoring and rebounding.
Now, don't turn that dial. Auburn isn't without its stars. And when I say stars, one name that might prick your ears is Johni Broome, who strolled down the court with 18.4 points per game last month, not to mention his rebound monopoly. Tahaad Pettiford and Miles Kelly also painted a reasonable picture on the scoring and rebounding front.
Flip a few more pages in our handy history book, and you'd find Gators chomping at the Tigers more often than not in past meetups. But let's not let history bias our judgment.
Sure, the Gators had a more successful regular season with a 30-4 record, two wins more than Auburn's 28-5, but remember, it's the playoffs now, and you can't count on past laurels to matter. We all know good ol' March Madness adores upsets, doesn't she?
The Gators have been on some kind of roll if we look at their recent results. Being the victor in their games against the Red Raiders and Terrapins, they sure look fierce. But the Tigers, too, have managed to keep their heads above water beating the Spartans and Wolverines. I guess it's safe to say both teams have been performing the cha-cha with Lady Luck.
Considering all these tangibles and maybes, and trust me, there are many, I foresee this game swinging like a pendulum before it finally settles. So, let's place our guesses, shall we?
