Obviously someone blew a wad of cash on reviving a time machine, because here we have Michigan State Spartans and Auburn Tigers going head to head in an Elite 8 clash that promises to be as unpredictable as me trying to solve a Rubik's cube: you never know quite how it's going to turn out until the last move.
The Spartan legion is led by Jase Richardson and Jaden Akins, who have upped their game more than a beach volleyball team in high tide. Richardson's figures speak louder than my grandma at a rock concert: last month he averaged 16.3 points per game. Akins, not to be overshadowed, has been dropping buckets too with an average of 12.9 points per game.
As for Auburn, well, they've come in loaded like a Thanksgiving dinner. Johni Broome has been throwing down points like it's going out of style, with a hefty 17.6 points per game last month. On the other hand, Tahaad Pettiford, who must have upped his morning Wheaties intake, has brought his A-game, scoring an average of 15.4 points in the same period.
Spartans, with a regular season record of 27-6, proved they could still lock horns with the bulls. But wait, hold my soda. Here come the Tigers, strutting a 28-5 slate, almost purring, excuse my pun, with confidence.
Recent matches suggest the Spartans perform better under pressure than my windscreen wipers in a monsoon. They beat the Rebels, Lobos, and Bulldogs, slipped against the Badgers but bounced back against the Ducks. Talk about a rollercoaster!
Auburn, cool as cucumbers in a salad, took down the Wolverines, Bluejays and the Hornets. They did stutter against the Volunteers, but fended off the Rebels like my little sister fights off her chores.
All said and done, let's remember the Spartans come in as 2nd seed, right behind the top-seeded Tigers. Colour me impressed.
Alrighty, predict-o-meter time. Drum roll, please. I'll ride with the favorites in blue and orange. And there you have it.
