UTSA Roadrunners by 17Gather around, sports lovers, as we gear up for this exciting NCAA football face-off between the Temple Owls and the UTSA Roadrunners. Now, the Owls and Roadrunners last met in October 2023 and, to put it mildly, the Roadrunners ran circles around the Owls with a scoreline of 49 - 34. If history is anything to go by, we might be in for another display of Roadrunner dominance.
But let's not judge the book by its cover. Even though Temple Owls have a couple of wins, the Roadrunners are slightly further up the ladder, but with a less-than-stellar win-loss count of 4-5. Given both squad's struggles during the regular season games, this encounter is akin to who trips over less.
Temple Owls are bowing in with Evan Simon leading from the front. The guy's dumped 860 passing yards within a month, mind you, but his 4-4 TD-INT ratio doesn't exactly scream "superstar". On the other hand, Roadrunners quarterback Owen McCown has tossed 1435 passing yards with 12 TDs against 3 INTs. This guy has more touchdown passes than Simon has Netflix subscriptions.
Now, let's shine the spotlight on some of the supporting cast, lest they feel left out. Temple Owls’ offensive line-up includes Terrez Worthy and Ashton Allen, both had a fair share of yards and TDs in their last month games. UTSA Roadrunners, not wanting to feel upstaged, flaunt Robert Henry and Chris Carpenter, making more yards and TDs than a beagle makes mischief.
On the defensive side, TyQuan King emerged as one of the Temple Owls' shields, racking up 15 tackles in the last four weeks, while on the Roadrunners side, Martavius French has been a force to be reckoned with, smashing opponents with 23 tackles in the same period.
All in all, this is a contest between two teams trying their best to get out of a rut. Despite their dissimilar paths, we do have a bit of an apple-to-orange scenario here, folks. On one hand, you have the Owls whose performance is about as consistent as an Internet Explorer update, while on the other hand, you have the Roadrunners who've had their own share of rough patches but come into this one with a bit more pep in their step.
