Seattle Sounders FC by 1Ah, a delightful trip to the Pacific Northwest awaits us as the Vancouver Whitecaps are set to contest the Seattle Sounders FC.
Mind you, the flipside of that shiny coin is the dreary reality of goalkeeper stats. For Seattle Sounders, Stefan Frei has done a commendable job with a high rating of 7.38 and 18 saves. The Sounders' second-string stickman, Andrew Thomas, doesn't evoke quite the same level of confidence. Admirable effort, you're up against Vancouver's Yohei Takaoka, who, despite fewer saves, boasts a 7.00 rating - not bad, not bad at all!
Seattle Sounders have some serious punch packed up front with Cristian Roldán and Albert Rusnák leading the charge. Roldán has been more of a midfield maestro, choreographing the play with pinpoint accuracy, while Rusnák has proven his striker's instinct with 4 goals. The Whitecaps, meanwhile, offer up a platter of talent with the likes of Sebastian Berhalter, known more for his midfield dominance, and Brian White, a genuine goal threat with 4 successful strikes this season.
Looking back on yesteryears, these two teams have treated us to some nail-biting fixtures. But in their most recent showdown, the Sounders outclassed the 'Caps with a 3-0 win. A bitter pill for the Whitecaps to swallow, I'm sure.
Vancouver's regular season seems impressive with a 9-5-1 record, edging Sounders' 7-5-5. Recent results paint a similar picture – Whitecaps showing a tad more consistency than the Sounders.
Looking at the tangibles and the intangibles, and subjecting it all to the patented bit of guesswork one needs in these cases; seems we're in for a tight contest.
