Well now, isn't this a treat? Real Salt Lake and Portland Timbers, going head to head. Both with their fair share of highs and lows, like a rollercoaster that's somehow less exhilarating. Bet there's going to be some sparks flying, probably from the players' cleats scraping the field, because let's face it, both have seen smoother performances.
The keepers. Oh, the valiant goalkeepers. James Pantemis and Maxime Crépeau are holding the fort at the Timbers' end. Some good saves there, especially from Pantemis. On the Salt Lake side, Rafael Cabral is swatting the ball like a cat with a laser pointer. Makes for good entertainment if nothing else.
Now, for some star power. The Timbers boast of Felipe Mora, with three goals to his name. Now, if only they counted missed shots, he'd be reigning supreme. But hey, that's not how it works. David Pereira da Costa and David Ayala aren't far behind. The Salt Lake team has a shining beacon in Diego Luna, four goals to his tally. Emeka Eneli and Brayan Vera seem to be too busy perfecting pass accuracy to bother with netting any goal though. Well, to each their own.
Looking back at the history, it seems like both teams have a propensity for sharing the spoils when they meet. The last outing was a thrilling 3-3 draw. The match before, however, was a walk in the park for Timbers. Not so sure about Salt Lake and trees but they are likely not fans after that 3-0 drubbing.
As it stands, Portland Timbers with a season record of 6-3-3 seem to be in better form compared to Real Salt Lake's 4-1-7. Recent results underscore the same. Timbers with wins against Sporting Kansas City and Los Angeles FC and Salt Lake folks faltering against Vancouver Whitecaps and Toronto FC.
Sorry Real Salt Lake fans, it ain't looking too peachy for you guys this time around. But hey, the beautiful game has often proven even the surest of sages wrong. So, while I still have any reputation to lose, here we go:
