Columbus Crew by 1In the ring today we've got Philadelphia Union facing off against Columbus Crew. Fierce matchup on the cards folks, well without giving out the card already, let's peruse the statistics, shall we?
Let's start with our human shields in the goal, the goalkeepers. For the Crew, we've got Patrick Schulte, sporting a 6.75 rating and has saved the day a whopping 11 times. Keep your eyes on this one folks. On the other side of the turf, the Union has Andre Blake and Andrew Rick. All I can say is, they're one fine duo, especially with Blake flaunting a 7.37 rating and Rick...well, let's just say he's banking on the elusive underdog charm.
Time to pick apart the crew of the Crew. First on the list we have Dylan Chambost, Diego Rossi, and Maximilian Arfsten. These guys are biting the bullet and sprinting ahead scoring goals and making massive shots on goal with ratings around pleasant seven. Kudos to Diego Rossi, who don't believe in fasting when it comes to scoring goals since he's already got two.
On the Union side, we've got a few notable players. Kai Wagner, Quinn Sullivan, and Danley Jean Jacques, stand out as Danley not only boasts a 7.13 rating but has also kicked in 2 goals. However, the average accurate pass percentage for these chaps is a little less than that for their counterparts at Columbus Crew, so let's hope they've been practicing their pool shots.
Talking about past matchups, this clash is what a history professor would call a power struggle because the Crew has come out on top in the previous four out of five showdowns. It's a bit of heated history replay there.
Looking into the recent results, the Crew seems to have been on a hot streak while the Union has had some solid performances as well. Both have seven victories under their belt in this season but the Crew's three draws puts them slightly ahead of the Union.
So the moment of true revelation folks, calling it as it is, the statistical lighthouse points towards Columbus Crew. However, predicting margins in soccer would be like predicting the weather in Seattle. Exciting but highly unreliable. But it's the spirit I signed up for and I'm throwing it down there.
