Ah, the Swiss Open final, where the cheese melts and the chocolate flows, figuratively speaking of course. We're looking at a tantalizing matchup between Juan Manuel Cerundolo, the plucky underdog working his way to the final without a seed to his name, against the decorated and heavily favored Alexander Bublik who's sitting pretty at the Number 2 seed.
Bublik has been slicing through this tournament like a hot knife through fondue, not dropping a set since the initial rounds. Remember that time when he took down Shevchenko with no more effort than swatting a fly? But let's not forget his hiccup against Munar earlier. That fall from grace still leaves a bitter taste, I’m sure.
On the other side of the net, we have Cerundolo, who's proving that determination makes short work of the seeding system. His journey to the final hasn't been as smooth as Bublik's though, with a few 3-set wins piled on his path. But hey, he took on the likes of Ruud and Goffin and sent them packing, laggage and all. That loss to Van Assche, though, that's a blemish that would make a Swiss watchmaker sigh.
Despite the hiccups on both parts, Bublik's consistency and seed, against Cerundolo's fight and fire, paints an intriguing picture. But as they say in these parts, the cows come home where they're milked, and in this case, I see that barn with a flashing ‘2’ on it.
So, what's the prediction for this Swiss fondue party, you ask? My money, figuratively, of course (nobody is handing over their francs), is on Bublik, and as much as I'd like a bit of a contest, I think he'll make it in straight sets.
Albert's Prediction: Bublik in straight sets.
