Cerundolo in 3 sets. A match worth popping popcorn for.Ah, the Swiss Open - cleaner than a Swiss bank account and sweeter than Swiss chocolate. We're looking at a semi-final matchup here folks with Juan Manuel Cerundolo going up against Ignacio Buse - and let me tell you, this one's for the love of all things tennis.
Up until recently, Cerundolo's been playing a bit like a man who mistook his tennis racket for a wet noodle. You remember that match against Van Assche? Served up enough double faults to own a small bakery. And let's not get started on the faceplant against Vukić. But recent results indicate he's finally decided to make use of the strings on his racket. Impressively, he's bumped off names like Goffin and Ruud, showing he's not all about unforced errors.
On the other side of the net, we have Ignacio Buse who's smashed through the brackets like Swiss cheese through a grater. His list of victims includes Zahraj, Ramos-Viñolas, and Majchrzak. Even more impressively? Every single one of his victories has been hard fought, with all but one going to a third set - demonstrating he sweat buckets and has the endurance of a marathon runner.
Now, seeing as neither of these two could convince the tournament committee to seed them, this match is anybody's guess - a bit like predicting the weather in London. You'd be safer betting on a squirrel finishing a triathlon. But hey, that's why they pay me the big bucks.
While Buse's recent string of victories is commendable, Cerundolo seems to have awakened from his sleep and the upset against big names should put a spring in his step. So, drum roll please...
