Joao Fonseca, our lucky number 8 seed, has been consistent recently. He bulldozed his way past Van Assche and Mensik. In fact, he didn't drop a single set against Van Assche, would you believe it? Fonseca's recent clash with Tien also turned in his favor, winning 3 sets to 1. Talk about a morale booster!
On the flip side, Tien has had a more back-and-forth time on the court. Despite being our number 5 seed, he's struggled a bit to consistently close games, oscillating between 3-2 and 3-1 victories and even tasting defeat at the hands of Fonseca himself not too long ago--a loss that probably still stings.
Looking at their past faceoff, Fonseca saw that win and the sun did shine a bit brighter for him. That's a psychological edge if I've ever seen one.
