Greater Western Sydney Giants by 1
As we dive headfirst into round 18, we're looking at a faceoff between the Greater Western Sydney Giants and the revered Geelong Cats. Now, history buffs amongst us might recall the Giants have had the upper hand in the last three meetings. Must be something in the water down in Geelong I'm guessing.
Now the Giants haven't been doing too shabby this season with a healthy 10-6 scorecard. The Cats however, in the game of feline vs giant, have snagged themselves one victory more at 11-5. On the whole, I'd pass the popcorn and call it a fair game but take a moment, folks, to lend an ear to recent history.
Seems like the Cats have turned a corner with an unexpectedly crushing win against Richmond. Now, I don't mean to get all prophecy-like on you, but I do recall a similar momentum before they copped a narrow defeat to the Giants last year. It’s a story as old as time: overconfidence meets underestimation. The Giants, despite being eighth in line for the AFL throne, haven't let it dampen their spirits as evident by their recent triumph over West Coast.
Bearing all of this in mind, it's gut-check time. So here goes nothing...
