Swiatek in straight sets.
Let's plunge into this romantic Wimbledon love story pitting Iga Swiatek against Belinda Bencic. Now, Iga carries impressive baggage as the 8th seed while Belinda is unseeded. No Cinderella slippers here.
Iga Swiatek, hailed as the unstoppable train, met Belinda thrice before, chalking up two victories. She was in imperious form, doling out breadstick bagels to most of her opponents in her recent matches, not losing a single set in four out of her five most recent matches. For my money, that's a consistent game, ladies and gentlemen.
Belinda's journey, on the other hand, has been more rough and tumble, having dropped a set in two of the last five matches. Even on her best day, she's left spectators wishing she sang the victory tune more convincingly. And yes, the odds are a bit cool on her compared to Swiatek.
Baseball might have taught us to root for the underdog, but tennis, oh well, tennis has no room for that kind of sentimentality. Long story short, I am putting my money, not literally speaking, of course, on Iga Swiatek. The Swiss Miss might crumble under the Polish power, and I expect Iga to send her packing in straight sets.
Albert’s Prediction: Swiatek in straight sets.
