You can almost hear the squeak of sneakers against the court as we prepare for the next pulsating encounter between the Indiana Fever and Las Vegas Aces. The matchup itself is an interesting seesaw with the Fever being increasingly feverish recently and the Aces having a bit of an ace up their sleeve, if you follow my gist.
The Fever's Caitlin Clark, who's been nothing short of spectacular this season, averages an impressive 19.9 points per game with 5.7 rebounds and 8.7 assists. Nothing to sneeze at, indeed. Then there's the steady contribution from Aliyah Boston with a respectable 13.8 points per game and an admirable 8.1 rebounds per game this season. Not forgetting Kelsey Mitchell who has consistently provided solid stats. However, despite their top performers, the Fever has had a middling season with a 6-6 record.
Switch over to the Aces, and you might just pull a muscle trying to keep up with A'ja Wilson. She's been having a banner year, averaging 20.8 points per game along with 10.1 rebounds. Add that to the mix with a significant performance from Jackie Young, and it becomes clear why the Aces have been holding their own, despite a less than ideal 5-7 season.
The Aces do have a favorable history against the Fever, winning 4 of the last 5 games. But saddle that with their recent struggle in the most recent games, they've been dropping balls, literally and metaphorically.
The Fever, positioned 7th in the WNBA standings against the Aces on 8th, gives them a slight advantage. But we all know that in this court of hoops, anything can tip the balance.
So grab your popcorn, and don't forget to stay hydrated as we brace for this thrilling encounter. My crystal ball (disclaimer: not an actual crystal ball) predicts the following,
