Hurricanes by 13Ah, the suspense is palpable! We have a face-off between two of Super Rugby Pacific's underdogs, the Hurricanes and the Fijian Drua. Now, I wouldn't necessarily place all my eggs in the Fijian Drua's basket, if you catch my drift. Their season record stands at an underwhelming 0-1. That's one less than ideal.
The Hurricanes, lovely folks they are, haven't had the sweetest taste of victory either this season, locking necks with the Fijian Drua at an identical 0-1 record. But remember – a tied record doesn't mean a tied game. I'd vouch for the Hurricanes any day, purely based on recent results.
In our nostalgia trip, a year ago the Hurricanes blew away the Fijians (pardon the pun) with a divergent score of 38 to 15. An outcome like that tends to linger, especially in the ticker of the losing side.
Back to the present, it's the Hurricanes' resilient performance against the Crusaders, and four consecutive victories from last year, that make me tilt my head their way. Sure, they're sitting just a smidge lower than the Drua in the standings, but this early in the season, the pecking order can be as changeable as a chameleon on a rainbow.
The confidence of the wallet-holders speaks volumes too. Where odds are concerned, the Hurricanes are leading the pack. As they say – money talks, and it's singing a sweet, tempestuous tune right now.
Let's lay it out straight: I anticipate the Hurricanes will whip up a storm, leaving the Fijian Drua feeling a little... deflated.
