An elite on the tour and current birdie-machine, Scottie Scheffler, is leading the pack with -22. He's carved up the course like a Thanksgiving turkey, and pretty recently he also grabbed 8th place in RBC Heritage. Remember, this guy's number one in the Tour rankings, so his golfing prowess is no fluke.
In a mildly astounding twist, we have Adam Schenk and Erik van Rooyen breathing down Scheffler's neck, tied at -15. Fascinating thing is, they're sitting at 160th and 101st in Tour rankings, respectively. I don't know about you, but that seems to render them as bit of underdogs in this scenario.
But wait, we've got to discuss some players from the shadow realm. Last year's king of THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson, Taylor Pendrith, clinched the event with -23. We've got Ben Kohles and Alex Noren trailing close behind with -22 and -21, respectively. But are they even participating this year? It's a mystery worthy of Sherlock Holmes.
Let's slide back to the very recent past, i.e., last round. Antoine Rozner ruled with a score of -8. Erik van Rooyen and Adam Schenk weren't too far behind, both wrapping it up at -6.
Having said all of that (and trust me, it's been more fun for me than it has been for you), I'm going to cast my vote of confidence behind the current numero uno, Scottie Scheffler. The man's been wielding his clubs like Excalibur and I just don't see anyone wrestling the crown from him.
