Alright, let's get rolling. We're off to a cracking start at the Rocket Classic, where Aldrich Potgieter and Kevin Roy, two unlikely visitors to the leader's board, share first place after round one, both lurking at 10 under par. They come in ranked 127th and 179th on Tour and their recent results have been good, not great. Potgieter notched a 6th place at the Charles Schwab Challenge, while Roy pulled off an 18th spot at the RBC Canadian Open. Rewarding, but hardly earth-shattering.
Max Greyserman and Min Woo Lee are right on their tail, both sitting at a noteworthy 9 under. However, it's worth mentioning that Max's recent form has been less than inspirational, limping home for a pathetic 36th in the Travelers Championship. Min Woo Lee is similarly challenged, with a slightly appalling 63rd in the same tournament.
Mark Hubbard is also there or thereabouts at 9 under, but it seems like he’s more interested in singeing the greens than lighting up the leader board. His recent result being a cut at the U.S. Open.
Let's not disregard last year's top performers: Cam Davis and Aaron Rai, who finished first and second respectively, have notably been quieter than a church mouse so far. And where's Davis Thompson, who tied for second place last year? He's playing the part of a golf doormat, a whole four shots behind the lead.
It'd be nice of course to give weightage to playoff data, but let's not forget that playoff is where underdogs mete out heartbreaks and ice-cold favorites melt under the heat.
So here's the prediction, folks. Given past performances, and the form gods not being kind to our top seeds, why not let a horse from the stable run the race? Min Woo Lee has a habit of ghosting in from the shadows in these scenarios, so let's go with him.
Albert’s Prediction: Min Woo Lee by 2 strokes
