This isn't a bingo night folks, it's the U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club and boy, do we have an interesting setup here - suspense that drips like a leaky faucet on a quiet night.
Leading the pack and probably causing a couple of furrowed brows in the field is the 33rd ranked Sam Burns. He's sitting pretty at -3, fresh off a runner-up finish at the RBC Canadian Open. Those touting him better hope his putting stroke hasn't taken an extended vacation.
Next up, we've got the pride of the fjords, Mr. Viktor Hovland perched at -1, while his recent 25th position in Memorial Tournament might not be worth a second look, his 14th tour rank surely is. But as they say folks, "you can't cash in rankings at the bank."
Also in the fray, we have Si Woo Kim and Thomas Detry languishing at +2, busily playing catch up. Kim had an enticing -2 in the last round, so let's just hope he has a couple more of those up his sleeve.
Now if we reach into the memory bank and pull out last year's champs, Bryson DeChambeau was king of the hill with -6, but this year he's busily compiling an unwanted collection of over par scores, currently at +10. And Rory McIlroy, who trailed just a step behind last year, has apparently decided to give the field a head start this year.
Recently, J.J. Spaun and Thriston Lawrence scorching the fairways with -4 and -3 respectively. If they can mirror those reptilian performances, they could claim a spot on the leaderboard soon.
Ah, but predicting golf winners is a bit like ice fishing blindfolded. That being said, considering the escalating tension, the rounds played, and the remaining puddle of my coffee, I'd say keep an eye on Sam Burns.
Albert’s Prediction: Sam Burns by 2 strokes. Remember folks, this isn't rocket science, unless, of course, you get hit by the golf ball. Then, you might need a rocket scientist. Advice on those stakeholders, don't bet the house on it!
