Dolphins by 5Ah, Dolphins versus the North Queensland Cowboys, the face-off everyone's been waiting for... said no one, ever! But let's not rob ourselves of a good old rugby punch-up. This clash will be unfolding in round 15, the pivotal middle of the regular season. Need I say, these games serve as a litmus test for what lies ahead.
The last few contests between these two have been a seesaw adventure. Sure, the Dolphins emerged victorious in the most recent one, but the Cowboys have had their fair share of whipping the Dolphins publically. However, it was the Dolphins, in 2023, that throttled the Cowboys nodding along to their victory jig.
Now, the interesting part is, neither team wields an impressive win-loss ratio. Dolphins with a 6-7 record, are doing a mediocre job of impersonating a championship side. The Cowboys, on the other hand, don't have much to brag about either with a 5-6-1 score sheet.
Poking at recent results, the Dolphins have flicked the opposition out of the water with some impressive victories. On the opposite side of the turf, the Cowboys have fought some tough battles, with few going their way, others not so much.
The standings throw-in an extra twist. Despite their less than spectacular performances, the Cowboys sit a notch higher than the Dolphins. Funnily enough, rankings mean as much as a chocolate teapot if you can't grasp the win when it matters.
Taking all of these under consideration, I guess we're in for a quite a nail-biter. Here's a free tip, folks; grab your popcorn, kick back, and if you've got a friendly wager going, I'd hedge my bets on...
