In the spirit of fair play, I'm obliged to admit that today's game between the Manly Sea Eagles and the Parramatta Eels should make the Eels as uncomfortable as a kiwi bird at a heights convention. As far as roster talent goes, the Eels have as much chance as a cricket team in an ice hockey match. But hey, miracles happen, right?
Plunging right in, the Eagles, who occupy the loftier 7th position in the NRL Premiership, have had a relatively smooth flight so far with their 2-1 streak adding to their favorable standing. Their recent triumph over the Canberra Raiders, where they stomped them into the ground with a decisive 40-12 victory, only adds to their charm.
On the flip side, the scene looks as grim for the Eels as a picnic at Chernobyl. Sitting 17th in the NRL Premiership and with a record looking more like a typo (0-3), you'd think the rug has been already pulled from under them. The Eels are yet to leave an impression this season and seemed to have packed pacifism instead of their playbooks, most recently falling short against the Canterbury Bulldogs with a score of 8-16.
Historically, too, the Eagles have soared higher on head-to-head challenges; their victory last April with 32-18 doesn't seem to be a one-off if we take a gander at their past face-offs.
So, unless the Eels have a hidden army of sharks up their sleeves, the odds don't seem to be gambling their favor tonight. My take? Buckle up, because this might be as competitive as watching cats play chess. But hey, I'm just a commentator, not a fortune teller.
