Dallas Stars by 1So, this matchup has me reaching for the metaphorical popcorn. We've got the Dallas Stars at the New York Islanders, and everyone in their right mind wants to know: Who's taking this one?
Between the pipes for Dallas, we're looking at Jake Oettinger and Casey DeSmith, both impressive goaltenders with high save percentages. If there was a save competition, DeSmith would probably take it with his season figure of 96.4%. But it's hockey, not a goalkeeper show.
New York? Sorokin's been decent with an overall 91.0 save percentage but let's be honest folks, Skarek doesn't exactly inspire confidence in the creases with only 87.1%.
Moving on to the ice warriors, Dallas has Johnston and Duchene leading the pack, both with impressive stats for the season. Robertson, join the line with noteworthy contributions especially in the last month and don't forget our man Hintz, contributing nicely with those assists.
On the flip side, Palmieri and Nelson stand tall for the Islanders. Despite a dry spell last month, Hovrat's proven he can handle the puck. Pageau might need to turn things around from last month, but judging by this season, he's got the skills.
A quick glance at past matchups and it's a right old mix of results. A coin flip might be the safest bet here, or leave it to your hamster to decide. Regular season records paint a different picture though, Dallas looking the stronger side with 36 wins to the Islanders' 25.
Recent results? It's been a rocky road for New York, while Dallas had a more balanced performance. Remember when balance meant riding a bike without falling? Now it's about scoring more goals than the other team. Go figure.
So, who are the cards favoring? I'll kiss my uncushioned bar stool if it's not the Dallas Stars, thanks to their strong goalie performance and player stats edging out the competition. Expect a close game, though, with just one point separating these teams in a game that's sure to leave you on the edge of your seat.
