Seems we're in for quite the clash at the Mohegan Sun Arena, folks. St. John's Red Storm is headed into lioness territory, going toe-to-toe with the roaring Connecticut Huskies – a Daenerys Targaryen vs. Cersei Lannister kind of matchup, it's just a shame we can't have dragons. Anyway, my HBO subscription aside, let's get cracking.
For St. John's, Ber'Nyah Mayo has been scoring more than a deli sandwich at a picnic. Averaging 15.0 points last month, she's more than a dollop in their offensive strategy. Alongside her, Lashae Dwyer has also proven herself to be a consistent scorer, netting 15.1 points. But this isn't just a two-player game. Skye Owen and Jailah Donald might not be the high scorers, but they've been as reliable as a metronome.
Meanwhile, in Husky town, you've got Paige Bueckers leading the pack, scoring an average of 17.4 points last month. The lady is as accurate as my smartwatch's pedometer, it’s ridiculous. Sarah Strong isn't just a name here, folks, it's a lifestyle - averaging 14.4 points last month. Then there's Azzi Fudd, who is a symphony to watch with 15.7 points last month.
Looking back at previous games, the Huskies have a history of 'out-storming' the Red Storm in their recent meetings. It's been a little one-sided to put it mildly, though some St. John's fans might say it's been as painful as a root canal. Season-wise, the Huskies stand with their jaws wide open at an impressive 28 wins to 3 losses, and St. John's not quite in the same ballpark with 16-14.
Considering form is as important as my wife reminding me of our anniversary, the Huskies are high on victories, while the Red Storm is relatively mixed, wobbling like a drunk uncle at a wedding. Now, I'm no weatherman, but a storm at a husky-filled arena isn't going to end well.
