My oh my, are you in for a treat today. We've got the city of angels own Los Angeles Dodgers gearing up to battle it out against Miami’s very own sea critters, the Marlins, over at loanDepot park. This Miami sun can be a touch tricky, a double-edged sword if you will — makes those fly balls a bit more, how shall we say, flighty... but also favors those fellas standing on the mound.
From our friends in LA, we have good ol' Landon Knack taking the lead, coming in with a solid ERA of 3.79 and a WHIP of 1.12. Bet you five bucks he'll toss in a good number of his trademark strikeouts too, given his current ratio of 8.9.
However, don't go dismissing Miami's Ryan Weathers just yet. This fish has a good swim in him, boasting a very comparable ERA of 3.97 and WHIP of 1.14. Guess it's not always sunny for the opposing batters when Ryan's up to serve.
Now, the Dodgers may just have the slight upper-hand in the lineup with folks like Miguel Rojas, Tommy Edman, and Shohei Ohtani stepping up to the plate. These gents are brandishing batting averages that would make a grandma weep with joy.
However, Miami's got their own secret arsenal with Otto Lopez and Jesus Sanchez … hold on, is that a Connor Norby I see on the roster? This should make for an exciting game folks, don't you go reaching for that remote now.
Taking a stroll down memory lane, these two teams have had some, shall we say, interesting encounters. Close games, landslide victories, it's been a mixed bag. I'd tell you to look at the records but, ehh, what's the fun in that.
Ah, now if you'll excuse me, I need to make a small digression towards their regular season wins. The Dodgers are boasting a dandy count of 89 against 61 losses, while the Marlins are, let’s just say, swimming against the tide with 55 wins against a disheartening 95 losses.
Based on recent form, I wouldn't bet a dime on the Marlins. The Dodgers' recent match against Marlins was a big win, and they have been consistent except for a minor hiccup against Atlanta. The Marlins on the other hand? Struggling big time notwithstanding their victory against the Dodgers.
So, after weighing all these overwhelming statistical oddities, allow me to place my foot in my mouth:
