Severstal Cherepovets by 3
Severstal Cherepovets has been performing rather admirably, much like that third cup of morning coffee, always hitting the spot. Their recent wins against HC Sochi, Kunlun Red Star, and CSKA Moscow are impressive, though the loss to Dynamo Moscow could be a slight hiccup like spilling said coffee on your tie. Lesser said about Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk's form, the better; akin to reheated leftovers, leaving much to be desired.
Severstal’s goalkeeper, Alexander Samoilov, seems to have saved all of 25 pucks this season, while for Neftekhimik, Filipp Dolganov appears to have come out guns... or rather gloves blazing with 41 saves. But, let’s face it, we've seen more action in a dentist's waiting room.
For Severstal, the offensive prowess of Danil Aimurzin and Kirill Pilipenko lights up the rink like a Christmas tree. If Aimurzin and Pilipenko are the tree and ornaments, then David Dumbadze is the candy cane. With a commendable season behind them, they’ve been celebrating goals like free pie day at the bakery. Meanwhile, Neftekhimik’s Andrei Belozyorov and Nikita Khoruzhev have been trying, bless their hearts, like a toddler lifting weights, to find the net.
Looking back, Severstal has treated Neftekhimik like a Christmas turkey carving out a strong record in past matchups.
Just like choosing cake over salad, leaning towards Severstal seems to be the order of the day.
