Puerto Rico by 16Honestly, folks, this Puerto Rico-Mexico playoff matchup is a clash as puzzling as my ex's choice in hair color.
Puerto Rico's standout players have certainly been turning the heat on this tournament, Arella Guirantes leading the pack with a decent 16 points per game and 6 rebounds in the playoffs, echoing her regular season stats. Mya Hollingshed also seems to have found her footing, hauling in 11 points and a solid 8 rebounds per game, while Trinity San Antonio adds 13 points per game to the tally. And let's not forget the rebound dynamo, India Pagan, putting up a whopping 8 rebounds per playoff game.
As for Mexico, the flavor seems to rest in Gabriela Jaquez with her 15 points and 8 rebounds per game in the playoffs, nicely backed by Hazel Ramirez contributing 11 points and dishing out 2 assists. Mariana Valenzuela and Anisa Jeffries dip in with 9 and 7 points per game, respectively.
Looking back on past encounters, it's hard to overlook the July 2025 meetup where Puerto Rico topped Mexico with a 77-60 victory. And if we're talking about who's been performing better this tournament, Puerto Rico's 3-1 record stands head and shoulders above Mexico's shaky 1-3. If my grandmother's memory serves her right, Puerto Rico landed at number 2 in Group B while Mexico limped in at number 4.
Really though, with all these factors in mind, it's a little tricky, like picking the winning lottery numbers. But if you hold me to it, I'd say the past and the present both have a Puerto Rican accent.
