Alcaraz in straight setsAh, sports fans, breathe in the crisp summer air of a Wimbledon round of 16 match featuring Andrey Rublev and Carlos Alcaraz. Now here's a fun fact - Alcaraz, enjoys himself a robust ol' advantage in head-to-head matchups with Rublev. Stepping onto the court boasting a lovely 2-1 record, with two victories achieved smoothly, in straight sets. Alcaraz seems to have Rublev's number - but hang on to your hats, that's not all!
As we trawl through the annals of recent victories, young Alcaraz, the second seed, has been painting the court with wins, gliding through the competition dumping Struff, Tarvet, Fognini, and a few other hapless souls right onto the loser's bench.
Now Rublev, our 14th seed and no pushover, has been swinging his racquet to some success too, but alas had a bit of a stumble against Etcheverry. Still managed to come out the other side to land himself in the round of 16 though, so give credit where it's due.
But here in the hallowed grass courts, past form can speak louder than words, and boy, does Alcaraz have Rublev's script memorized. So with every respect to rublev for showing up (truly, bravo sir), it's only logical we lean in favor of Alcaraz here.
