Draper in straight setsIn anticipation of the upcoming Mutua Madrid Open semifinals, Jack Draper and Lorenzo Musetti are each poised to give an entertaining display of their abilities on the court. Neither of these chaps is a stranger to today's spotlight, as each has given excellent accounts of themselves over the past week.
Despite recent victories, Lorenzo Musetti is ironically the underdog in today's faceoff - a facet of today's match that can be both a gift and a curse. Whilst defeating the likes of Diallo, de Minaur, and Tsitsipas, which is no small feat by the way, he still couldn’t find his footing against Draper in their last two encounters. Nerves? Maybe, or perhaps Draper has cracked the Musetti code.
Now let's turn our heads and glance at Jack Draper. Seated comfortably at seed number 5, Draper managed to get the best of players like Arnaldi, Paul, and Berrettini. However, please note, dear punters, he had a little hiccup against Davidovich Fokina - which I wholeheartedly agree took us all by surprise, like your spouse telling you to put down the remote and pay attention to conversation at dinner.
Taking their past encounters and performances into account (discreetly excluding chances of rain, of course), it appears that Draper, despite his minor hiccup, seems to have an edge over Musetti. Sounds a bit like picking love over money, doesn't it?
So grab your popcorn, sit back and relax, ladies and gentlemen, because we have ourselves a semifinal! My fingers are itching to declare a winner, and my gut is whispering – no, yelling – telling me to put my jokes and money on Draper prevailing over Musetti in straight sets.
