Melbourne Demons by 4Good heavens, we've got a scrappy dogfight on our hands with the Melbourne Demons set to square off against the Carlton Blues. Is this round 19 of the AFL or a bad dream? These two have had a history of hard-fought, closely contested games - I'm talking margins thinner than a footballer's hair in the fourth quarter.
Lounging uncomfortably at the 12th and 13th spots respectively, we've got a tug of war between the underachievers. With both teams boast an anarchic 6-11 record from their regular-season games, it's like choosing between a broken foot and a sprained ankle. I will say this, though, if past games were any indication, Carlton has held their own against the Demons more often than not. They've scraped by with barely-there victories in the last couple of meet-ups.
In their recent performances, the Demons seem to have a slight edge. Yes, Carlton managed a decent win over the West Coast about a month ago, but their momentum hit a brick wall faster than a rogue kangaroo on the freeway. The Blues' recent losses, especially to Brisbane and Collingwood, aren't promising. The Demons haven't had a standout performance, but they did manage to record a more convincing win against North Melbourne.
In the cut-throat world of AFL, it ain't about love, it's about the stats. And while neither team will be filling up their trophy cabinets anytime soon, the Demons, with their marginal edge in recent form and the bookmakers having some faith in them, they seem like a safer bet.
