Gauff in straight sets.Get ready for a thunderbolt, tennis aficionados. In the Aussie Open round of 16, we've got a captivating spectacle wrestling for attention between an unstoppable elan named Coco Gauff and an unseeded, yet undying spirit, Belinda Bencic.
In their last face-off, Gauff seemed to be putting ballet lessons to use as she pirouetted her way to a victory. One can't deny the allure of her agility on court, considering she scarcely dropped a beat, vanquishing Bencic in two clean sets without dropping a single one. A reminder of her young, but no less intimidating stranglehold on the game.
Gauff's recent performances? As crammed with wins as a pickpocket's pockets are with someone else’s treasures. A clean record of resounding victories, no thanks to her carnivorously consistent playing style. She swam through the field like a great white shark through a school of fish. Point in case - Kenin and Fernandez offered about as much resistance as a chocolate eclair would to a sweet tooth.
Now, over to Bencic. Can't decry her efforts, though. She's shown resilience in recent matches, rounding off victories against some big shooters like Osaka. However, her new year celebrations must have run a bit too late and too liquor-drenched seeing how she fell short against Samsonova earlier this month.
Sharing the stage with them, we've got Melbourne Park. This hard surface, much like Gauff's resolve, offers little reprieve to its players - it's fast, it's furious and forces you to spin a web of trick-shots for anything resembling a win. Something that Gauff has turned into her personal playground, thanks to her status as the 3rd seed.
So, unless Bencic plans to bribe Mother Nature for a flood, it looks like Gauff will be riding the high tide of her current hot-streak and taking the win. While my money's on Bencic putting up a good fight, I'd still wager on Gauff rattling off a clean win.
