Birmingham Stallions by 11
Alright, sports fans, pull up a chair and grab a snack, be prepared for a hefty serving of football discussion! We're all set to see the Memphis Showboats launch their assault on the Birmingham Stallions' end zone. That said, the Showboats are currently tied to a millstone sitting at the bottom of the USFL league with the Stallions waiting up on the hill, throwing spitballs. If past is prologue, it's hard to be optimistic about the Showboats' chances.
Oh, and let's stroll down memory lane, shall we? Memphis met Birmingham twice last year and unfortunately, they got their rumps royally kicked on both occasions. To add a dash of lemon juice to those fresh bruises, the Showboats regular season record is unsightly - I've seen prettier things sitting in a ziplock bag forgotten in the back of my fridge, while Birmingham is strutting around with a 3-1 lead.
Now, Memphis fans might be clinging onto their recent "win" - if one could call it that - against the Houston Roughnecks last summer, but let's not chicken dance just yet. The recent record is dismal and the mountain they need to climb is Everest sized.
On the contrary, the Stallions are stomping around like they own the place, and with good reason. The recent victories over the Houston Roughnecks and Arlington Renegades underline their superior form, and they're currently gazing down from #2 spot in the USFL.
An upset here would require a miracle of biblical proportions - like turning water into Gatorade kind. Unless the Showboats pull a rabbit, or rather an elephant, out of their helmets, this columnist sees the Stallions running the score up.
