Memphis Showboats by 2Well, buckle in folks, because we're in for an interesting match this eve. The Memphis Showboats are playing away at D.C. Defenders and to be frank, odds aren't looking too bright and shiny for them.
Looking at the recent history, we find that the last time these two went head to head, the Defenders cruised to victory by a comfortable 15-point margin. Add that to the fact that the D.C. squad also kicked off this season on a winning note, and you might think they’d pop the champagne right about now. But hold your horses, as Memphis trounced Houston quite impressively last year - let’s not forget that when we’re pulling out our betting slips.
The Showboats haven’t exactly had a dream start to the season, something they'd like to rectify - they managed to pull only one trick out of their hat, winning their previous game rather unconvincingly. While the D.C. team has all the swagger of a winner, having edged past the admirable Birmingham Stallions in their previous game, so it will be a Titanic clash indeed.
Looking at the standings, it's clear the Defenders are the underdogs in the XFL, while the Showboats have a relatively comfortable berth in the USFL. This makes the game even more interesting - everyone loves a good underdog story, right?
Based on all of this, I think it's time I throw a curveball here: my take is that the Memphis Showboats will finally pull their socks up and deliver an upset. That being said, it's not going to be a walk in the park by any means. And remember, this is just a hunch - I've been wrong before (once).
