My Prediction
Cagliari by 1Ah, the intoxicating scent of the pitch, a fertile battle ground for Cagliari and Lecce. Both have seen better days in Serie A, as their regular season records reveal. A head spinning 5 wins, 5 draws and 10 losses for Lecce, while Cagliari doesn't fare much better with 4 wins, 6 draws and 10 losses.
Looking at the keepers, Cagliari seems to be split between riding on the high-performing Elia Caprile or the underwhelming Alen Sherri. On the other side of the pitch, Lecce seems pretty cool with Wladimiro Falcone flying solo at the goal.
If you've got an eye for talent, Cagliari's star power flickers slightly with Leonardo Pavoletti, the leading scorer, albeit with a single goal. Yerry Mina and Gabriele Zappa around him aren't really making waves either. Lecce, though, has a little more dazzle with Nikola Krstović and Tete Morente, both with 2 goals to their name, a welcome sight for any football fan.
History does whisper wisdom into our ears with the past match scores; Lecce won and drew the last two face-offs with Cagliari. However, recent form is a fickle mistress. Lecce comes off a nice win against Empoli, but Cagliari recently held Milan to a draw.
A juggler would have an easier time with flaming torches than predicting the outcome of this face-off. But it's not my job to dodge flying fire, but rather predict these hard-to-call matches, so... I expect the pendulum to swing in favor of the home team this time around – just by a smidge, mind you – and not because of their on-the-field prowess, but that's a tale for another time.
